State-owned Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL) has secured a major railway infrastructure project after emerging as the lowest bidder for a wagon maintenance facility to be set up under East Coast Railway (ECR).
In a regulatory filing, RVNL said the project involves the construction of a wagon Periodical Overhaul (POH) workshop at Kantabanji, designed to service up to 200 wagons. East Coast Railway is the awarding authority for the contract.
The total value of the project stands at ₹201.23 crore, excluding goods and services tax. RVNL was the sole participant in the bidding process, and the execution timeline for the project has been fixed at 18 months.
“This is to inform that Rail Vikas Nigam Limited has emerged as L1 for the setting up of a 200-wagon capacity POH workshop at Kantabanji under East Coast Railway,” the company said in its stock exchange disclosure.
Earlier in the month, RVNL had also bagged another significant assignment from Southern Railway. The company received a letter of acceptance for a traction power infrastructure project valued at ₹145.35 crore.
The Southern Railway contract covers the design, supply, installation, testing and commissioning of Scott-connected traction substations, power quality systems, switching posts and a 2×25 kV feeding arrangement. The scope of work also includes SCADA systems and automatic fault locator technology. The project will be executed on the Jolarpettai–Salem route in the Salem division.
RVNL noted that the traction power project forms part of Indian Railways’ Mission 3000 MT freight loading initiative and is scheduled for completion within 540 days. The company clarified that the order has been awarded by a domestic railway entity and does not involve any related-party transaction.
Despite the order wins, RVNL’s shares ended lower on Monday. The stock closed at ₹366.90 on the Bombay Stock Exchange, slipping ₹21.05 or 5.43 per cent.
