A new dedicated container train service connecting Sahnewal in Punjab with Pipavav Port on Gujarat’s coast was officially launched on June 2, 2026, at ICD Sahnewal, marking a significant step in strengthening logistics connectivity between North India and the western maritime gateway.

The Sahnewal–Pipavav Port Container Train Service will operate every Tuesday and Friday, providing improved transit efficiency and seamless cargo movement for businesses in North India seeking port access through Pipavav. The service is designed to cater to multiple vessel operators based at Pipavav Port, offering customers scheduled rail connectivity aligned with shipping schedules.

The Tuesday service supports vessel movements including PS3-ONE, CIX3 operating through COSCO, OOCL and CMA CGM, along with FI2, which is expected to commence operations by the end of June. The Friday service connects with JTI-ONE and FI3 operated by Maersk, ensuring customers have reliable rail-to-port coordination for their export and import shipments.

The inauguration represents an important milestone in enhancing supply chain capabilities across North India while supporting sustainable freight transportation through rail-based logistics. The service reflects a commitment to delivering reliable, efficient and customer-focused logistics solutions while strengthening trade connectivity across key markets.

The launch reinforces Pipavav Port’s role as a strategic gateway for North Indian cargo, offering shippers an alternative port option with direct rail access. The dedicated container train is expected to reduce transit times, improve scheduling predictability and provide cost advantages for businesses depending on efficient port connectivity.

The Sahnewal–Pipavav service underscores the growing emphasis on integrated rail-port logistics as a driver of trade efficiency and sustainable freight transportation in India’s evolving supply chain ecosystem.
