Samsung Heavy Industries has entered into a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with India’s Swan Defence and Heavy Industries to work together in shipbuilding and offshore engineering.
Under the agreement, the companies will collaborate in engineering, procurement, and management of shipbuilding and offshore projects. Swan Defence—India’s largest dry dock operator capable of constructing very large crude carriers (VLCCs)—brings valuable infrastructure to the partnership.
Samsung aims to use this collaboration to establish a stronger presence in India, with plans for gradual business expansion. This alliance is part of its ongoing strategy to broaden its global network, which recently included a strategic partnership with US-based Vigor Marine Group in August.
The announcement comes at a time when the Indian government is investing heavily in its maritime sector. With plans to spend around ₹1.82 lakh crore in shipbuilding and port infrastructure, India is positioning itself among the world’s leading maritime nations.
