[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Honorary Secretary of the Institute of Marine Engineering, Science & Technology (IMarEST) UAE Branch – Nikeel Idnani has received the IMarEST President’s Commendation Award for 2016, recognizing exceptional service to the organization.

Presenting the annual international award, during a branch technical meeting, IMarEST UAE branch Chairman, Jacque Powell said, “This is a fitting occasion to formally recognize the dedication and hard work of Mr. Nikeel Idnani and present him with a prestigious award for his contribution to the IMarEST and maritime community in UAE. I have known Nikeel for many years and noted earlier on that he is a man of sociable disposition, honourable spirit, dedicated to the worthy cause of the IMarEST, determined and persistent in pursuing whatever the task/goal. It has been a pleasure knowing and working with him and I am pleased to announce that he has been awarded the IMarEST President Commendation in 2016.”

Hailing from a family of Mumbai based seafarers, Nikeel was carried onboard his first ship (Gen. Cargo ‘Jala Dhanya’) as an infant. 30-years later he was inducted as a Student Member of the IMarEST in 1999 while studying for the institute-accredited Advance Diploma of Marine Engineering (Chief Engineer) at the Australian Maritime College, Tasmania. On completion, he was honored with the IMarEST prize for the graduate achieving the best overall performance. After receiving this much coveted accolade, he has been motivated to make a difference within the maritime world, in particular reciprocating to the IMarEST which propelled him in his professional career as a marine engineer.

Nikeel has been the Honorary Secretary of the IMarEST UAE branch, which is based in Dubai, since September 2012. He organizes technical activities through meetings and conferences and develops links with IMarEST members, other professional bodies, government, schools and industries at the regional level. The IMarEST UAE Branch is very active, attracting members from a broad spectrum of marine areas such as Shipping, Ports, Energy, Manufacturing, Ship repair, Surveying and Classification. Regular technical & social events of the IMarEST UAE Branch are very well attended and provide the basis of information exchange, social and business networking.

Nikeel remarked, “As a marine engineer I learnt to be versatile given the limited resources in the middle of the ocean and unpredictable instantaneous challenges encountered onboard. You’ve got to be a jack of all trades and master of most of them. Over the years I’ve realized that the difference between voyages rests not with the ships, but with the people you meet on them. I have a sense of belonging to this close-knit maritime fraternity. As the Honorary Secretary of the IMarEST UAE Branch, I have a feeling of empowerment whilst being of service to the Middle East maritime community. Thank you for recognizing my efforts.”[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
