Shri Piyush Goyal inaugurates NITIE Centre of Excellence

In keeping with his commitment to nation-building and fostering a conducive atmosphere for the fruitful public, private and academic partnerships, Shri Piyush Goyal, Hon’ble Minister of Commerce & Industry, Government of India, inaugurated the Centre of Excellence in Logistics and Supply Chain Management at the National Institute of Industrial Engineering (NITIE) on Thursday, 23^rd September 2021.

While congratulating NITIE for this initiative and reminiscing about his past association with the institute when his father was a visiting faculty there, Shri Piyush Goyal, Hon’ble Minister of Commerce & Industry, Government of India, highlighted the tremendous scope of global business supply chains in driving the nation’s economy. He urged all the students and faculty members to take into consideration the importance of efficiency and the geographic spread of industries and factories today, while committing to drive India’s progress – not just for themselves but also for the marginalised and underprivileged sections of society.

Mr. Shashi Kiran Shetty, Chairman, Allcargo Logistics, ECU Worldwide and Gati, who is also the Chairman of the Society and Board of Governors at NITIE, spoke about his aim to enable the right structure, talent and management so the Centre can live up to the needs of the country and bring India closer to its vision of a USD 5 trillion economy. He also mentioned the institute’s aspirations towards becoming autonomous and achieving new levels of excellence.  

In today’s day and age where strategic vision, demand planning, value addition through digital technology and operational excellence are critical for success, the Centre of Excellence in Logistics and Supply Chain Management aims to conduct cutting-edge research, knowledge creation, and capacity-building programs to develop India’s logistics sector through applied research and industry outreach to tackle real-time business scenarios. Backed by Mr. Shetty’s active participation, relentless support and deliberations with relevant officials and authorities, along with the support and dedication of Prof. Manoj Tiwari, Director, NITIE, and his team of faculty, staff members and students, the Centre of Excellence in Logistics and Supply Chain Management is a landmark development that truly showcases NITIE’s phase of transformation into an institution of global excellence.
