In the first quarter of 2019, as many as 181 ships were sent for recycling. Of these, 142 were sold to ship breakers in South Asia, it is learnt.
In the first quarter, shipowners in the US, Saudi Arabia and Singapore sold most of their ships to South Asian yards, followed by Greek and South Korean owners, reports said.
