South Western Railway (SWR) has reported a robust financial and operational performance for FY 2025–26 up to February, clocking overall gross revenue of ₹8,550 crore, a 14.31% increase over the same period last year.
Freight earnings remained the main growth engine at ₹4,876 crore, up 18.27%, while passenger revenue rose 9.25% to ₹3,154 crore, supported by 13.66 million passengers in February alone. In February 2026, SWR generated monthly gross revenue of ₹780 crore, up 7.25% year-on-year, with passenger revenue of ₹307 crore (+14.5%) and freight revenue of ₹415 crore.
On the cargo side, the zone loaded 47.5 million tonnes (MT) of originating freight in the April–February period, up 17% from 40.6 MT a year ago, driven by strong growth in steel and coal. Iron ore loading reached 19 MT (+10.7%), steel surged to 9.8 MT (+35.9%), and coal improved to 9.3 MT (+16.6%), with February 2026 marking SWR’s best-ever February performance for steel at 0.89 MT and strong coal loading at 0.90 MT (+19.6%).
The railway also saw gains in sundry and ticket-checking revenues, reflecting better commercial focus and enforcement, as SWR’s network continues to play a critical role in moving raw materials and finished products across Karnataka and adjoining regions.
