Susanta Kumar Purohit, an officer of the Indian Railway Service of Electrical Engineers (IRSEE) from the 1996 batch, has assumed additional charge as Chairperson of Paradip Port Authority (PPA).
Purohit, who currently serves as Chairperson of V.O. Chidambaranar Port Authority (VOC Port), was given the additional responsibility by the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, Government of India.
Experience across infrastructure and public administration
Purohit has held positions across Indian Railways, the Ministry of Power, the Government of Odisha and the Government of India. His experience spans administration, engineering, infrastructure development, policy formulation and public-sector management.
Before taking up his present responsibilities, he served as Joint Secretary in the Department of Chemicals & Petrochemicals, where he was involved in policy formulation and sectoral development.
His earlier assignments also included responsibilities related to infrastructure development and technology-driven initiatives in the railway and power sectors, as well as public administration in Odisha.
Focus areas for Paradip Port
As Chairperson of Paradip Port Authority, Purohit will oversee initiatives aimed at strengthening the port’s infrastructure and connectivity, improving operational efficiency and modernising cargo-handling facilities.
The port is also expected to continue work on green and sustainable port initiatives under his additional charge.
Purohit will continue to discharge his responsibilities as Chairperson of V.O. Chidambaranar Port Authority alongside the additional assignment at Paradip Port Authority.
