A Marshall Islands-flagged LPG tanker carrying approximately 20,000 tonnes of liquefied petroleum gas successfully arrived at Deendayal Port in Kandla, Gujarat, after navigating through the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz.

The vessel Symi, transporting liquid propane and butane sourced from Qatar’s Ras Laffan terminal for Indian Oil Corporation, completed its voyage with all 21 crew members, comprising 13 Filipino and eight Ukrainian nationals, reported safe.

The tanker’s passage required sophisticated tactical navigation through heavily contested waters. Operating under multi-agency coordination amid US blockade positions and Iranian naval surveillance across the Gulf of Oman, the carrier temporarily deactivated its automatic identification system (AIS) transponders midway through Wednesday, enabling it to transit radar-monitored conflict zones before reappearing east of Iran’s Larak Island.

This delivery marks the 13th Indian-bound vessel to successfully traverse the strait since its effective closure over two months ago following escalating US-Israel military operations against Iran and subsequent Iranian counteractions. The shipment arrives as India faces mounting pressure on domestic fuel availability amid persistent disruptions to global energy transit corridors.
