Tata Steel has chalked out ambitious plans to double its annual crude steel production capacity to 40 MTPA from 21.6 MTPA by the end of this decade which will also mark its 116th Foundation Day.

“The recent acquisition of Neelachal Ispat Nigam Ltd has given us a significant opportunity to not only restart the 1 MTPA steel plant expeditiously, but also begin work immediately to build a 4.5 MnTPA state-of-the-art products complex, and further expand it to 10 MTPA by 2030,” the statement added.

Besides, the company said it is accelerating the 5 MTPA expansion programme at its Kalinganagar plant, following which the capacity will go up from 3 MTPA to 8 MTPA, which can be further expanded to 16 MTPA.

Also, 6 MTPA pellet plant at Kalinganagar will be commissioned in FY 2023, followed by the cold rolling mill complex.

The company also said it is developing plans to expand its site at Meramandali in Dhenkanal, Odisha from the existing capacity of 5.6 MTPA to 10 MTPA.

The leading private steel enterprise has said it is looking to add 0.75 MnTPA capacity through scrap-based production through its first electric arc furnace, which will be set up in Punjab, close to the scrap generating auto hub in Haryana.
