Tehran-Ashgabat Rail Cargo Exchange Up 57%

More than 300,000 tons of cargo were transported via railroad between Iran and Turkmenistan during the first 11 months of the current Iranian year, registering a 57% rise compared to last year.

More than 300,000 tons of cargo were transported via railroad between Iran and Turkmenistan during the first 11 months of the current Iranian year (March 21, 2022-Feb. 19), registering a 57% rise compared with the corresponding period of last year, according to Gholamhossein Valedi, a local rail official.

Exports stood at 170,000 tons during the period, registering close to 10% growth compared with the same period of last year, IRNA reported.

Citrus fruit, cement, chemicals, tiles and food products were the main commodities exported via railroad.

A total of 130,000 tons of goods were imported during the period, including wood, lumber, paper and lentils.
