Together, they have developed 3 education centers in a slum located in Chembur, central Mumbai.

This initiative will enhance the lives of more than 500 out-of-school children.

A shared commitment to improve access to education for all in India

The CMA CGM Foundation has prioritized education for all as one of its primary objectives. Since 2005, it has collaborated with major associations to implement over 400 educational initiatives worldwide.

In India, roughly 8 million children reside in slums where they lack access to education, nutrition, healthcare, and proper protection from exploitation and abuse. This has motivated the CMA CGM Foundation to sign its first partnership in India with the NGO CRY – Child Rights and You in March 2023.

Since its establishment in 1979, CRY has successfully executed over 100 initiatives across 19 Indian states, positively impacting more than 3 million children. Through this partnership, the CMA CGM Foundation and CRY have committed to providing hundreds of underprivileged children with new learning and development opportunities.

Development of 3 educational centers for children residing in a slum located in Chembur, central Mumbai

The CMA CGM Foundation and CRY have developed 3 new ”Child and Adolescence resource centres” in the disadvantaged neighborhood of Chembur in Mumbai.

These centers will cater to 6 to 18 years old children residing in Chembur and provide them with educational support aligned to their school curriculum and extracurricular activities such as football and drama.

They will also enhance their skills like confidence building and offer them a safe environment conducive to their growth and development.

The first two centers were opened on October 31st and have been welcoming over 115 children each day. The third and largest center was opened on December 1st and is set to start welcoming children this week.

In total, the 3 centers will accompany more than 500 children annually, providing them with the chance to be enrolled and retained in public schools so that they get the education that they deserve. CMA CGM staff members will participate in all phases of this initiative, including activities and volunteering days held at the educational centers.
