V.O. Chidambaranar Port Authority (VOC Port) has launched a new feeder shuttle service connecting Tuticorin with Colombo, strengthening maritime trade links between Tamil Nadu and Sri Lanka and improving container transshipment options for southern India’s exporters and importers.

The shuttle was officially inaugurated by Shri Rajesh Soundararajan, IAS, Deputy Chairperson of VOC Port, in a ceremony at the Tuticorin International Container Terminal.

Key features of the new service

OperatorPort of Colombo’s container terminal partner (feeder service)
PurposeDirect feeder connectivity for containers between south India and Sri Lanka’s transshipment hub
BenefitReduces reliance on longer feeder routes via Cochin or Chennai
Strategic valueEnhances regional maritime connectivity and trade facilitation in the Bay of Bengal

The service is expected to provide shippers in Tamil Nadu, Kerala and adjoining regions with faster, more cost-effective access to Colombo’s global container network, where many mainline services connect to Europe, North America and other major trades.

This shuttle complements existing feeder operations from VOC Port, including the earlier weekly Colombo–Cochin–Tuticorin service that started in 2017, and reflects the port’s push to expand its container footprint and position Tuticorin as a key southern gateway for international trade.
