Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal reviews preparations for Global Maritime India Summit 2023

The minister’s review comes as final touches are being put in place for the summit, which is set to unveil investment opportunities to the tune of ₹10 lakh crore.

Union Minister of Ports, Shipping & Waterways and AYUSH, Shri Sarbananda Sonowal, took stock of the ongoing preparations for the upcoming Global Maritime India Summit (GMIS) 2023 along with Shri Shripad Naik, Hon’ble Minister of State for Ports, Shipping & Waterways and Tourism, and Shri Shantanu Thakur, Hon’ble Minister of State for Ports, Shipping & Waterways. The summit, scheduled between 17th and 19th October at the MMRDA Ground, Bandra Kurla Complex in Mumbai, aims to be a landmark event in India’s pursuit of a sustainable blue economy.

Shri Sarbananda Sonowal highlighted the momentous potential of the summit, stating, “The Global Maritime India Summit 2023 will be a turning point, setting the pace for India’s blue economy through substantial investment commitments.”

The minister’s review comes as final touches are being put in place for the summit, which is set to unveil investment opportunities to the tune of ₹10 lakh crore. As of today, 16 countries have confirmed participation in this premier maritime summit that will bring together eminent people from the industry to explore opportunities, understand challenges and boost investment in the India’s maritime sector. Over 90 eminent speakers from national and international spheres are confirmed to participate, and as many as 238 Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) for collaborative maritime projects are expected to be signed. The three-day event will showcase the global best practices catalysing investment, collaboration, innovation, and promotion of opportunities in the Indian maritime sector. This year’s GMIS aims to provide a platform for showcasing global best practices that can attract investment, foster collaboration, and spur innovation within the Indian maritime sector.
