Uzbekistan and India have taken a significant step toward enhancing regional trade connectivity by agreeing to jointly develop multimodal transport routes and new logistics corridors linking South Asia, Central Asia, and Europe.

The agreement was formalized through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between Uztemiryulkonteyner JSC, Uzbekistan’s national rail container operator, and ABS Logistics, a leading Indian transport and logistics company. The signing took place during an international transport and logistics exhibition, underscoring both nations’ commitment to advancing regional trade infrastructure.

Under the MoU, the two partners will collaborate to boost container traffic, open new transport routes, and expand transit opportunities across Uzbekistan’s strategically located network — positioning the country as a key land bridge between India, Central Asia, and Europe.

The initiative also includes joint efforts to diversify cargo flows, upgrade logistics infrastructure, and introduce digital technologies aimed at streamlining operations and improving efficiency along multimodal routes.

Officials from both sides emphasized that this partnership aligns with their broader goal of strengthening economic and trade connectivity across Eurasia.

The move follows Uzbekistan’s recent push to expand its role in regional logistics. Earlier this month, the country signed a separate agreement with Pakistan to enhance multimodal freight movement and jointly develop a new international transport corridor connecting Pakistan, China, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, and northern markets.

These coordinated initiatives underline Uzbekistan’s growing importance as a central hub for trade routes linking South Asia to Europe, while offering India expanded access to Central Asian and CIS markets through efficient, integrated transport corridors.
