Visakhapatnam is set to host Lighthouse Festival 3.0 on January 9 and 10, an event being organised under the aegis of the Union Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways. The festival is aimed at showcasing India’s maritime legacy, boosting lighthouse tourism, and strengthening engagement with coastal communities.
According to officials, the two-day celebration will feature a range of cultural performances and special programmes, scheduled daily from 6 pm onwards, offering visitors an immersive experience rooted in the region’s coastal traditions.
Preparations for the festival were reviewed at a meeting chaired by Joint Collector K. Mayur Ashok, who assessed the readiness of various departments. The review was attended by the Deputy Director General of Lighthouses along with senior port and district officials.
Highlighting the significance of the event, officials said that former Vice-President M. Venkaiah Naidu, Union Tourism Minister Suresh Gopi, State Tourism Minister Kandula Durgesh, along with local MPs, MLAs, MLCs, and other public representatives, are expected to take part in the celebrations.
Drawing inspiration from the successful editions held earlier in Goa and Puri, authorities have been asked to scale up arrangements to ensure a grand and seamless festival in Visakhapatnam. Officials were instructed to guarantee uninterrupted power supply, maintain sanitation and cleanliness, establish a medical camp, ensure availability of drinking water and other essential amenities, arrange transport facilities including buses, and undertake extensive publicity through both mainstream and social media platforms.
The festival is expected to draw significant public participation and position Visakhapatnam as a prominent destination on India’s maritime tourism map.
