In a significant milestone for India’s maritime sector, V.O. Chidambaranar Port (VOC Port) at Thoothukudi, Tamil Nadu, has achieved a record handling of 20 million tonnes of cargo as of 21 September 2025. This marks the fastest-ever attainment of this volume in the port’s history, underlining its growing role as a major gateway for international trade in South India.

The achievement reflects an overall growth of 0.61% in total cargo throughput and a remarkable 6.93% increase in container traffic compared with the same period last year. With this performance, VOC Port has reinforced its reputation as one of the country’s most efficient and fast-expanding ports, combining operational excellence with modern infrastructure and digital adoption.
