V.O. Chidambaranar Port Authority (VOCPA) in Tuticorin shattered its own record on February 18, 2026, handling 208,995 MT of cargo in a single day—eclipsing the prior mark of 205,995 MT set on February 14.

The achievement underscores VOC Port’s operational prowess, with Chairperson Susanta Kumar Purohit highlighting efficiency gains from mechanized systems like the 240m link conveyor for coal to Tuticorin Thermal Power Station. This boosts annual coal capacity by 700,000 tonnes amid strong bulk demand.

The port earned IGBC Platinum for its green administration building on February 4, running on 100% renewables with water savings. At India AI Impact Summit, it led panels on AI-optimized ports. A MoU with Oriana Power eyes e-ammonia and CCUS pilots.

VOCPA’s feats position it as a key southern gateway, with JSW Infrastructure’s 7 MT/year unloaders slated for 2026. These align with India’s export surge and green shipping mandates.
