V.O. Chidambaranar (VOC) Port has greenlit a massive ₹15,000 crore outer harbour project, featuring 4 km breakwater and 2.2 km wharf to transform it into southern India’s premier transshipment hub.

The deep-draft facility will accommodate 16,000 TEU vessels, targeting 2 million TEUs annually by 2030 and capturing 20% of India’s transshipment market currently dominated by Colombo and Singapore.

Integrated with ₹1,500 crore upgrades like green hydrogen and rail links, it aligns with Maritime India Vision 2047 to boost coastal trade and regional exports.
