In a significant achievement, Visakhapatnam Port Authority (VPA) has set a new benchmark by berthing a Trans-Pacific (TP) mother vessel with the highest-ever container carrying capacity recorded at the port. The newly berthed vessel boasts a massive capacity of 15,486 TEUs, surpassing the earlier record of 15,256 TEUs set by MSC Monica Christina in May 2024.
This historic milestone reaffirms VPA’s growing stature as a leading gateway port on the eastern coast of India and its capability to handle large-scale container operations efficiently. The arrival of the high-capacity mother vessel marks a major leap in cargo handling infrastructure and reinforces VPA’s commitment to scaling up operational excellence and trade facilitation.
Speaking on the occasion, the VPA Chairman lauded the coordinated efforts of the marine and terminal operations teams for enabling the smooth berthing of the vessel. He emphasized that this milestone aligns with VPA’s vision to become a preferred port for major global shipping lines by enhancing capacity, connectivity, and competitiveness.
VPA continues to play a crucial role in strengthening India’s maritime logistics and is determined to attract more mother vessels, contributing significantly to the nation’s blue economy and EXIM growth.
