The West Bengal cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, approved industry status for the logistics sector, aiming to attract investments and generate employment across the state. Tourism had earlier been accorded industry status.
Officials said the move is expected to strengthen Bengal’s position as a competitive destination for industrial and commercial activity, at a time when the state is actively wooing new investments.
The cabinet also cleared the transfer of 200 acres of land to the West Bengal Industrial Development Corporation (WBIDC) for the development of the proposed Tajpur–Dankuni–Raghunathpur economic corridor. The project, sources said, will create large-scale employment opportunities and give a major push to industrial growth across multiple districts.
