When the berth is extended and the remainder of the port is finished, Vizhinjam International Seaport will need twice as many workers in three years. Businesses that provide security, mooring, driver, and technician services at the port anticipate double their employment.
Two additional berths will be created, and the breakwater will be expanded. When the project is finished in 2028, the port will be able to accommodate almost five million containers annually. More workers are needed to manage the task as a result of the capacity growth.
Currently, the port has over 700 employees. More than 300 people have already received training from the government-run skill training facility, and another 100 are currently enrolled in courses in response to urgent needs. The government-run skill training center has been notified of the need for employees and will hire and train more people from Thiruvananthapuram and Vizhinjam.
Waterline Shipping, which manages ship mooring, employs about 20 people, according to Manoj Nair. After the port is enlarged, this will rise by forty. He hired and trained young people in the area. When the port is finished, he continued, more ships will dock, and more workers will be required to perform mooring operations.
Even though remotely operated cranes are used to handle the containers, the port will require additional drivers, operators, security personnel, and other people in the upcoming years.
