[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Bangalore International Airport Ltd (BIAL), in collaboration with its cargo partners—Menzies Aviation Bobba Bangalore Pvt. Ltd (MABB) and Air India SATS Airport Services Pvt. Ltd (AISATS)—has announced the opening of a dedicated bonded trucking service from Tirupur to Kempegowda International Airport, Bengaluru (BLR Airport) as part of the KNITWORK CONNECT BLR project. Initiated with the aim of connecting Tirupur—the knitting capital of India—to Bengaluru, KNITWORK CONNECT BLR will enable exporters from Tirupur and the surrounding areas to freight their consignments through BLR Airport via road transport in an efficient, safe and highly process-driven manner. The first batch of exports weighing over 3,300 kg from Tirupur to Tel Aviv, Israel via BLR Airport is scheduled for April 19, 2017.

As an airport located centrally in South India, BLR Airport has a geographical advantage that would benefit exporters from the city. The trucking of cargo between Tirupur and Bengaluru will form a critical part of BLR Airport’s cargo operation. A dedicated road feeder for connecting cargo will be introduced to maintain a minimum transhipment time. The cargo will be moved via purpose-built truck docks to achieve a quick turnaround. This feeder service will ensure that air freight reaches its ultimate destination quickly, efficiently and will offer exporters a cost-effective way of transporting bulk cargo from Tirupur.

This project will also increase the overall cargo tonnage from the airport. With new technology and improved communication, KNITWORK CONNECT BLR offers exporters multiple advantages that include:

* Single line of transactions for airline and trade partners

* Scheduled trucking services from Tirupur

* Avoids multiple handling and damage to cargo

* Closed trucks—safe and secure

* All post-shipment documents can be released at Tirupur

* Operational cost savings due to consolidation

* Customs clearance and duty drawback at origin

BLR Airport provides consistent and reliable world-class air cargo solutions. Among the most advanced and mechanised cargo terminals in the country, the equipment includes Automated Storage and Retrieval System (ASRS), Elevated Transfer Vehicle (ETV), Very Narrow Aisle Truck (VNA) and high rise racking, Lift and Run system, reach stackers and hand-held devices. Working in tandem with its partners, BIAL has a clear focus for the future—to develop the Kempegowda International Airport, Bengaluru as the ‘South Indian cargo gateway to global economies’ and KNITWORK CONNECT BLR is one of the many steps in that direction.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
