Nitin Gadkari inaugurates container terminal, multi-cargo terminal & other projects at Kamarajar Port

Mr Nitin Gadkari, Union Minister for Road Transport, Highways and Shipping, inaugurated five new projects at Kamarajar Port.

The new Container Terminal, Multi-Cargo Terminal, Rail Connectivity to Container and MCT terminals, E-Office and RFID System were inaugurated in the presence of Mr Pon. Radhakrishnan, Union Minister of State for Shipping, Road Transport and Highways, Mr D. Jayakumar, Minister for Fisheries, Finance, Personnel and Administrative Reforms, and Mr P. Benjamin, Minister for Rural Industries, government of Tamil Nadu.

In his address, Mr Gadkari congratulated the CMD, Kamarajar Port Ltd (KPL) and his team as well as the terminal operators for this achievement. Mr Radhakrishnan spoke about the developmental projects undertaken by KPL, while Mr Jayakumar touched upon the initiatives undertaken for the growth of the Port.

Mr M. A. Bhaskarachar, CMD, KPL, welcomed the gathering and briefed about Kamarajar Port and its developmental programmes. Mr Krishnasamy, General Manager (Operations), KPL, delivered the vote of thanks.

Dr P. Venugopal, MP, Mr P. Balaraman, MLA, Mr K.P.P. Samy, MLA, Mrs Victoria Gowri, Director, KPL, Mrs Sundaravalli, Collector, Tiruvallur, Mr G.J. Rao, Director, Adani Ports & SEZ Ltd, Mr M.A.M.R. Muthiah, MD, Chettinad Group, Port employees, terminal operators, Port users, and people from the nearby villages attended the function.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr Gadkari said that an investment of Rs 2,50,000 crore is being made in Tamil Nadu under Sagarmala. Of this, Rs 39,000 crore will be for port modernisation, Rs 55,000 crore for port connectivity and Rs 1,50,000 crore for port-led industrialisation. He added that the work being done under Sagarmala is estimated to create about 2 lakh direct jobs in the state in the coming two years.
