Aseem Kumar Gupta, Additional Chief Secretary in the Urban Development Department (UDD), has been appointed Mission Director to oversee development work at Vadhvan Port and its surrounding influence area as part of the Mumbai Growth Hub initiative. Gupta also holds additional charge of the state Housing Department.
Palghar district, a tribal region earmarked for integrated port-led economic growth, is being developed by the Mahayuti government as the state’s “Fourth Mumbai.” The plan envisages transforming the district into an integrated industrial and economic hub encompassing logistics, manufacturing centres, new townships, a proposed airport, the influence area around the Boisar bullet train station, and tourism destinations. Described as a model of port-led economic development, the growth hub is being built around Vadhvan Port.
A government resolution issued by the state’s Planning Department on Wednesday stated that the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Economic Master Plan-Growth Hub has been prepared to ensure rapid implementation of recommendations aimed at boosting the state’s economic development, attracting and retaining foreign investment, and expanding opportunities for startups and employment.
