Bombay Logistics has flagged off a fleet of Blue Energy Motors’ heavy-duty LNG trucks for commercial operations in Karnataka, with the vehicles deployed in the Toranagallu region to support JSW Steel’s industrial freight requirements.

What is driving the shift to LNG trucks?

Blue Energy Motors said its LNG trucks are designed for intensive commercial applications and long-haul operations, claiming up to 20 percent better fuel efficiency compared to conventional diesel trucks while reducing the carbon intensity of transportation operations. Thimmaraj Kakarla, Managing Partner at Bombay Logistics, said the company’s move to LNG was focused on finding a commercially viable solution for its operations, with the performance and fuel efficiency of the Blue Energy Motors trucks key factors in the decision.

How was the deployment supported?

According to Bombay Logistics, Blue Energy Motors supported the rollout through vehicle handover, route planning and on-ground assistance. Anand Mimani, CEO of EV and New Energy at Blue Energy Motors, said the company’s focus was on meeting the performance and reliability requirements of industrial operations while supporting the broader transition to LNG-powered freight.

How does this fit into Blue Energy Motors’ wider operations?

The deployment adds to Blue Energy Motors’ growing footprint across industrial and freight applications in India. The company said it currently operates more than 1,400 trucks across key freight routes nationally and has crossed 100 million green kilometres on Indian roads, positioning it as a significant player in the country’s alternative fuel commercial vehicle segment.

What does this mean for India’s steel and industrial logistics sector?

Blue Energy Motors manufactures heavy-duty electric and LNG trucks in India, combining truck technology with an energy-as-a-service and maintenance support model. The JSW Steel deployment reflects growing interest among heavy industry and logistics operators in cleaner fuel alternatives for intensive freight operations, as companies look to cut both operating costs and carbon intensity across their supply chains.
