Deendayal Port Authority, Kandla, has achieved another operational milestone by loading 38,500 metric tonnes of bentonite on MV BUZZARD in 22 hours and 25 minutes. The loading operation began at 4:05 pm on July 2 and was completed at 2:30 pm on July 3, highlighting the port’s focus on speed, efficiency and cargo handling performance.
Coordination across stakeholders
The record operation was made possible through the coordinated efforts of multiple stakeholders, including Ashapura Stevedores, Spartans Marine Services, Balaji Infraport, and the exporters Gimpex Imerys India Private Limited and Bharat Abrasives and Chemical Industries. Their combined effort ensured smooth execution, faster vessel turnaround and reliable logistics support for the trade.
Stronger efficiency benchmarks
The achievement reinforces Deendayal Port’s position as one of India’s leading major ports with a consistent track record of operational improvements. Faster loading times help reduce congestion, improve berth productivity and support the competitiveness of Indian exports in global markets.
Importance for logistics and trade
Bentonite is an important industrial mineral used across sectors such as foundries, construction, drilling and oilfield services, making efficient port handling critical for supply chains. By completing such a large loading operation in less than a day, the port has demonstrated its capability to support bulk cargo movements with improved turnaround times.
Part of a broader record run
The latest feat adds to a series of performance benchmarks at Deendayal Port, which has been working to strengthen cargo handling capacity and operational reliability. Such achievements are significant not only for the port but also for the wider maritime and logistics ecosystem, where faster vessel handling directly improves trade flow.
