Everllence has appointed Dr Fabian Kley as Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and a member of its Executive Board, effective 1 November 2026. The German maker of marine engines and industrial technology is preparing for a change in ownership, with Bain Capital set to take a majority stake.
Kley has led the finance function since March 2026, when he was appointed Finance Director and oversaw finance as an authorised representative of the Executive Board. The new appointment makes that role permanent.
Kley’s career and background
Kley, 46, joined the company in 2019. He held several strategy leadership roles before becoming Senior Vice President for Corporate Strategy and Mergers and Acquisitions.
Before Everllence, he worked at the strategy consultancy Booz & Company and the energy technology company Schlumberger. He holds a doctorate in energy economics from the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology and an MBA from the University of North Carolina.
Supervisory Board Chairwoman Hauke Stars credited Kley with preparing the finance organisation for the ownership transition and with improving reporting and management tools. Chief Executive Officer Uwe Lauber pointed to his work on corporate strategy and his operational role in preparing for the Bain Capital transaction.
Bain Capital to acquire 51% from Volkswagen
On 25 June 2026, Volkswagen announced an exclusive agreement under which Bain Capital would acquire 51% of Everllence. Volkswagen said it intended to keep a 49% stake in the medium term.
The deal depends on regulatory approvals, completion of the information and consultation process in France, and other customary conditions. Volkswagen expects proceeds of about €7.4 billion from the planned leveraged buyout.
At the time of the announcement, Everllence reported around 16,000 employees and revenue of €4.9 billion. Its business covers large engines, turbomachinery and emissions reduction technologies for shipping, power generation and industry.
Growth areas under new ownership
In announcing the deal, Bain Capital named several areas for further investment:
- Everllence’s service business
- Naval applications
- Alternative-fuel technologies for shipping
- Power generation for data centres and industrial facilities
Bain Capital said it would work with Everllence’s management and Volkswagen to build on these areas. It also highlighted the company’s installed equipment base and an aftermarket network of more than 140 locations worldwide.
For ship operators, these priorities point to continued development of alternative-fuel engine platforms and of the services that support equipment over its operating life. They are investment intentions set out in the transaction announcement, not separately announced spending commitments.
From MAN Diesel & Turbo to Everllence
The company adopted the Everllence name on 4 June 2025, replacing MAN Energy Solutions. The new brand launched at its Augsburg headquarters and other main European sites, including Oberhausen, Berlin, Zurich and Copenhagen.
The new name reflects a wider portfolio that covers marine and power-plant engines, retrofit technologies, large heat pumps, carbon capture and storage, and, through its subsidiary Quest One, hydrogen production equipment.
The company had already changed its name once, from MAN Diesel & Turbo to MAN Energy Solutions in 2018, as it shifted its focus towards emissions reduction technologies for shipping, energy and industry.
Everllence said the 2025 rebrand did not change its products, services or ownership. The Bain Capital transaction, announced a year later, is a separate corporate development.
