Gateway Distriparks deploys Blue Energy Motors electric trucks for freight operations

Gateway Distriparks Limited (GDL) has deployed electric heavy-duty trucks from Blue Energy Motors for commercial freight operations, expanding the use of electric vehicles across its logistics network.

The deployment was inaugurated at GDL’s Inland Container Depot (ICD) at Garhi Harsaru in Gurugram ahead of World EV Day. The electric trucks will be used for commercial freight movement within Gateway Distriparks’ transportation network.

The move comes as logistics companies in India explore electric heavy-duty vehicles as an option for reducing emissions from road freight while maintaining the operational requirements of commercial transportation.

Why is Gateway Distriparks deploying electric trucks?

Gateway Distriparks is integrating electric heavy-duty trucks into its freight operations as part of its efforts to reduce the environmental impact of transportation.

The company said the vehicles will support first- and last-mile connectivity in container logistics. The deployment is also intended to assess the operational suitability of electric heavy-duty vehicles in regular commercial freight applications.

What electric trucks are being used?

The vehicles deployed by Gateway Distriparks are Blue Energy Motors’ electric heavy-duty trucks designed for commercial freight applications.

According to the company, the trucks incorporate battery technology, vehicle management systems and supporting charging infrastructure. The vehicles are intended for freight operations where reliability, vehicle availability and operational performance are key requirements.

Where are Blue Energy Motors’ electric trucks operating?

Blue Energy Motors said its electric heavy-duty trucks have already operated on the Mumbai–Delhi NCR corridor, one of India’s major freight routes.

The company said these operations are being used to demonstrate the application of zero-tailpipe-emission trucks in commercial freight transportation.

The latest deployment with Gateway Distriparks adds another application for electric heavy-duty vehicles, with the trucks being integrated into container logistics and first- and last-mile operations.

How is electric freight transportation developing in India?

India’s logistics sector is increasingly examining lower-emission alternatives for road freight as companies seek to reduce the carbon intensity of transportation.

Heavy-duty trucks account for a substantial share of road-freight energy consumption and emissions, making fleet electrification an area of interest for logistics operators. However, wider adoption depends on factors including vehicle range, charging infrastructure, freight cycles, payload requirements, vehicle costs and operating economics.

For logistics companies, deployments in active commercial operations provide an opportunity to evaluate electric trucks under actual freight conditions rather than through pilot programmes alone.

How many green trucks does Blue Energy Motors operate?

Blue Energy Motors said more than 1,400 green heavy-duty trucks are operating across key freight routes in India.

The company also reported that its fleet has travelled more than 122 million green kilometres and contributed to a reduction of more than 33,000 tonnes of CO₂ emissions.

Blue Energy Motors said this emissions reduction is equivalent to the carbon absorption of nearly 1.3 million trees. The company operates a portfolio of LNG and electric heavy-duty trucks.

The deployment by Gateway Distriparks adds to the use of electric trucks in India’s commercial logistics sector, where fleet operators are evaluating different technologies to reduce emissions while meeting freight transportation requirements.
