Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers Ltd (GRSE) has secured a patent for an indigenous process covering vessel block alignment and edge preparation for naval platforms.
The patent for the process, titled “Process for Vessel Block Alignment and Edge Preparation for Naval Platforms,” was granted on October 1, 2026. GRSE announced the development on October 5 from Kolkata.
Process targets precision in warship construction
Warships are constructed using multiple sections, or blocks, which are assembled to form the complete hull. Accurate alignment of these blocks and preparation of their edges are critical to the joining and assembly process.
According to GRSE, the patented process is designed to improve precision, efficiency and quality during the construction of naval vessels.
The development provides an indigenous approach to a key stage of warship construction and is intended to strengthen the shipbuilder’s capabilities in advanced naval platform manufacturing.
GRSE expands focus on indigenous innovation
GRSE said the patent reflects its focus on indigenous innovation and technological development in defence shipbuilding. The company said the achievement further strengthens India’s capabilities in the construction of advanced naval platforms.
The shipbuilder has also expanded its focus on technology development and innovation initiatives. In August, GRSE launched the fourth edition of its GRSE Accelerated Innovation Nurturing Scheme (GAINS), aimed at encouraging solutions for the shipbuilding sector.
