Chennai Port has added a regular maritime connection to Vietnam and South China with the launch of HAIAN Lines‘ monthly CVI container service.

The service commenced with the maiden call of M.V. HAIAN BETA at Chennai Port, with the development reported on October 5, 2026.

CVI service rotation

The CVI service connects Chennai, Port Klang West, Haiphong and Nansha.

HAIAN Lines’ announced rotation is Chennai – Port Klang – Haiphong – Nansha – Haiphong – Port Klang – Chennai. The service began from October 1 with a vessel of approximately 1,700 TEUs.

Service launch at Chennai Port

The commencement of the service was marked by a ceremonial flag exchange and cake-cutting ceremony, followed by a stakeholder programme at the DP World Conference Hall.

Representatives from Chennai Port, HAIAN Lines, the terminal and the logistics community attended the event.

Chennai Port Chairperson Sachin S. Kurve, IAS, thanked HAIAN Lines, Samsara Shipping and DP World Chennai for their role in bringing the service to the port.

Kurve highlighted the importance of direct and regular maritime connectivity for the trade community, noting that additional services provide exporters and importers with greater routing options.

Connectivity for South Indian trade

The monthly service provides businesses in South India with an additional maritime route to manufacturing and commercial centres in Vietnam and South China.

The connection through Port Klang West also provides access to a major regional transhipment hub. The Chennai-Haiphong link is expected to support trade with Vietnam, which has emerged as an important manufacturing and trading partner for India.

HAIAN expands intra-Asia network

Samsara Shipping Private Limited serves as HAIAN Lines’ general agent in India.

Established in Vietnam in 2009, HAIAN describes itself as the country’s leading container shipping line and ranks among the top 100 container fleets globally.

The company operates 20 container vessels ranging from 800 to 3,500 TEUs, with a combined capacity of around 33,000 TEUs, serving domestic and intra-Asia routes.

HAIAN has also ordered two 7,100 TEU vessels scheduled for delivery in June and September 2028.
