Seven Indian-flagged merchant ships, including five cargo vessels and two container ships, are currently sailing safely in the Persian Gulf region, according to officials. None of these vessels is carrying oil or gas cargo destined for India at present. Around 148 seafarers are on board these ships, with crew changes and supplies reported to be proceeding smoothly despite heightened regional tensions.
Extra Caution After Oman Coast Incident
Indian-operated vessels in the area are taking additional precautions and adjusting their routes following a recent attack on a Cyprus-flagged ship off the coast of Oman, in which one Indian crew member was reported missing. To reduce exposure to risk, these ships are using alternate sea lanes to steer clear of identified trouble spots. The rerouting comes amid reports that United States officials have blamed Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps for the incident, adding to concerns over safety of commercial shipping in these waters.
