The Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority (JNPA) handled 831,956 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) in August 2026, recording its highest monthly container throughput since the port began operations.
Container volumes increased 19.54% year on year from 695,966 TEUs in August 2025. The August 2026 performance also exceeded JNPA’s previous monthly record of 771,418 TEUs, registered in April 2026.
Total cargo handled by JNPA during August rose 13.81% year on year to 9.74 million tonnes.
BMCT and NSFT post terminal-level records
Individual terminals also recorded their highest monthly container volumes during August. Bharat Mumbai Container Terminal (BMCT) handled 303,032 TEUs, while NSFT recorded 123,876 TEUs.
The terminal-level performance contributed to the overall increase in container traffic at JNPA during the month.
JNPA container throughput rises 15.45% in April-August
During the April-August 2026 period, JNPA handled 3.83 million TEUs, representing a 15.45% increase compared with the corresponding period of the previous financial year.
Total cargo throughput during the five-month period stood at 46.36 million tonnes, an increase of 12.34% year on year.
JNPA handled 831,956 TEUs in August 2026, its highest-ever monthly container throughput. This was 19.54% higher than the 695,966 TEUs handled in August 2025.
