The Logistics Data Bank (LDB) has tracked 10 crore EXIM containers since its launch in 2016. The platform provides visibility of EXIM container movement across the country through technology-based tracking systems, supporting visibility across the logistics chain and providing information to stakeholders to facilitate monitoring of container movement.

Speaking on the occasion, Union Minister of Commerce & Industry Piyush Goyal said the tracking of 10 crore containers through the Logistics Data Bank is an important milestone in India’s logistics journey. He said technology is helping make logistics simpler, faster and more efficient while improving the competitiveness of Indian industry, adding that efficient logistics will be central to strengthening manufacturing, expanding India’s presence in global markets and realising the Prime Minister’s vision of a Viksit Bharat.

LDB provides visibility of 100% of India’s EXIM container movement through RFID-based technology, covering 19 ports and 32 container terminals. Its network also extends to 103 Inland Container Depots, 439 Container Freight Stations, Empty Yards, Parking Plazas and Industrial Zones, 89 Manufacturing Special Economic Zones, 5,569 railway stations, 269 toll plazas and three Integrated Check Posts. The platform provides analytics on dwell time, transit time, and port and terminal performance, enabling stakeholders to monitor logistics operations and identify bottlenecks.

LDB 2.0, launched by Goyal in September 2025, expanded the platform’s capabilities by enabling high-seas tracking of India’s export containers and providing multimodal shipment visibility. LDB uses Radio Frequency Identification, Internet of Things, Big Data and Cloud technologies to track containers across ports, rail networks, industrial zones, borders and highways, providing near real-time visibility of container movement across the logistics chain. The World Bank’s Logistics Performance Index has also recognised the role of LDB in India’s logistics performance.

Rajat Kumar Saini, IAS, Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director, National Industrial Corridor Development Corporation (NICDC), and Chairman, NICDC Logistics Data Services Limited (NLDSL), said reaching 10 crore containers is a proud moment in the journey of LDB. He said what began with the objective of bringing visibility to EXIM container movement has today become an important digital platform for India’s logistics sector, adding that this achievement has been possible through the continued cooperation of the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, ports, terminals, CFSs, ICDs and other stakeholders. He said the endeavour ahead will be to further strengthen LDB through analytics and new technologies to meet the evolving needs of India’s logistics sector.

LDB has an average of over 1.5 crore container searches every month, with its container tracking services available through a single-window platform at www.ldb.co.in. NLDSL, which works on logistics technology solutions including the Logistics Data Bank and Unified Logistics Interface Platform, was established on December 30, 2015, as a joint venture between the Government of India, represented by the National Industrial Corridor Development and Implementation Trust, and Japanese IT major NEC Corporation.
