Marine Components International (MCI), a leading Dorset-based maritime equipment specialist, has seen a market expansion eight-fold in the sale of BSB Fire Dampers in the last 24 months.
Returning to SMM International Maritime Fair, from 1st to 4th September 2026, the technical sales team will have the complete range of BSB A60 Marine Fire Dampers in Hall B5, Stand 545.
As a global distributor for BSB Fire Dampers and leaders in distribution of maritime products, MCI has seen an eight-fold increase in sales since SMM 2024 in what has been a challenging time for the maritime industry. MCI has seen growth in countries such as Turkey, Italy, Thailand, Spain, The Netherlands, Denmark, Germany, Australia, Greece, and customers include shipyards, heating and ventilation companies and a growth in repeat purchases through the MCI distribution network. Since SMM 2024, MCI has supplied fire dampers to superyachts, river cruise boats, ferries, and offshore support vessels with a 50/50 split on rebuild and refit work.
We asked Andrew Scott managing director at MCI what is the pull for customers towards BSB Fire Dampers, he said, “BSB Fire Dampers are British made. For the consumer this fundamentally means high quality precision engineered products made by a skilled workforce.” Aside from the quality and the product benefits, Andrew pointed out one of the big draws towards BSB is their rapid delivery. “From order to shipment we offer an eight-to-15-day lead time. This is faster than their competitors due to production capacity and stock management and for our customers this means they can meet their project timelines should an unforeseen last-minute request arise or without having to hold stock for prolonged periods of time.”
Why BSB Fire Dampers?
The BSB A60 range carry all the major international certifications, these include all the latest approvals; UK MER certification, MED certification, US Coast Guard (USGC) Safety Of Life At Sea (SOLAS) and Lloyd Register certification.

The A60 type automatically meet Lloyds Register Approval to IMO Fire Test Procedures Code, Annex 1 Part 3 for Class AO, A15, A30 and A60 division bulkheads and decks, making them an ideal solution.
Each unit comes with a failsafe in the form of an electric actuator with an IP54 rating, an elevated level of protection against dust or water ingress, and thermal fuses which activate the damper when the temperature reaches 72 degrees C.
