Indian logistics professional Mehrunisha Begum has won a Silver Medal in Logistics and Freight Forwarding at the 48th WorldSkills Competition, held in Shanghai, China, from September 22 to 27, 2026.
Begum represented India in the international competition, where participants were assessed on practical and professional competencies related to logistics and freight forwarding, including international transportation, documentation, routing, commercial decision-making and customer handling.
Mehrunisha Begum’s Logistics Career
Begum holds a BBA in Logistics from Begumpet Degree College, Hyderabad, and currently works with Cargomen Logistics India Pvt. Ltd. She handles the Thermo Fisher Scientific account, gaining experience in international logistics operations, customer coordination, documentation and freight-management processes.
As part of her preparation for WorldSkills Shanghai 2026, Begum underwent intensive training under Kamal Jain and the training team. Her preparation covered international freight forwarding, air and ocean cargo, multimodal transportation, freight calculations, Incoterms, customs procedures, documentation, dangerous goods, customer communication and operational problem-solving.
The Logistics Sector Skill Council (LSC) provided training and institutional support for her participation in the competition. The council works on developing industry-aligned skills and supporting workforce development in India’s logistics sector.
WorldSkills Shanghai 2026
The 48th WorldSkills Competition brought together around 1,400 young professionals from nearly 70 countries and regions to compete across 64 skills. The competition covered areas including manufacturing, technology, services, transportation, construction and logistics.
WorldSkills provides an international platform for participants to benchmark their technical knowledge and practical abilities against occupational standards.
In the Logistics and Freight Forwarding category, competitors are assessed on areas such as freight planning, international transportation, documentation, customs compliance, cargo handling, costing, routing, Incoterms, customer service and operational problem-solving.
India’s WorldSkills Participation
India’s participation in WorldSkills is supported through the skill-development ecosystem led by the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship. The National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) coordinates India’s participation in WorldSkills and supports the development of the country’s national skills competition ecosystem.
Initiatives including IndiaSkills and WorldSkills provide Indian professionals with opportunities to develop industry-relevant competencies and compete on international platforms.
Begum’s progression from logistics education in Hyderabad to industry experience at Cargomen and participation in an international skills competition highlights the role of formal education, practical industry exposure and specialised training in developing logistics professionals for global supply chains.
