Mumbai Port Authority hosts German business delegation, deliberates on maritime trade and infrastructure opportunities

Mumbai Port Authority hosted a senior German business delegation at the iconic Port House on Wednesday, September 16, 2026. The delegation was led by Dr. Helena Melnikov, Chief Executive Officer, German Chambers of Commerce and Industry, and included seven Chief Executive Officers of German Chambers of Industry and Commerce (IHK) from across Germany. Christoph Hallier, Consul General of Germany in Mumbai, also accompanied the delegation.

Dr. M. Angamuthu, IAS, Chairperson, Mumbai Port Authority, interacted with the delegation and presented an overview of Mumbai Port’s operations, ongoing projects, future development plans and trade linkages.

Key projects discussed included Viksit Bharat Mumbai Marina, Eastern Waterfront and International Convention Centre, Jawahar Dweep-related energy infrastructure, the proposed National Mega Shipbuilding Cluster at Dighi, port modernisation works and forthcoming public-facing maritime infrastructure. The discussion also covered Mumbai Port’s role in automobile movement and trade-linked logistics, and how stronger port infrastructure and hinterland connectivity can support India-Germany trade flows.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Angamuthu said the port was pleased to receive the German delegation at Port House, adding that India is growing at a massive scale, and ports have an important role in supporting this growth through trade, logistics, energy movement, cruise tourism and maritime services. He said Germany brings strong industrial and technological capabilities to the table.

The discussion focused on India’s growing economic scale and the pivotal role of ports in supporting trade, logistics, infrastructure and industrial growth. The German delegation acknowledged the scale of India’s growth and the opportunities emerging around Mumbai’s maritime economy.

The Mumbai Port visit formed part of a wider India programme organised by the Indo-German Chamber of Commerce, running from September 14 to 18, 2026, and covering New Delhi and Mumbai, aimed at strengthening Indo-German economic engagement and exploring cooperation between companies, institutions and regions.
