Vedanta Aluminium emerges as India’s second-largest SEZ goods exporter

Vedanta Aluminium, India’s largest aluminium producer, has emerged as the country’s second-largest exporter of goods from Special Economic Zones (SEZs), with its Jharsuguda-based SEZ in Odisha contributing USD 3.5 billion in exports during 2025-26. The company’s exports accounted for around 6% of India’s total SEZ goods exports during the financial year, according to the latest trade figures compiled by the Export Promotion Council for EOUs & SEZs (EPCES).

The milestone assumes significance as services continue to dominate India’s SEZ export basket, accounting for more than 60% of combined SEZ exports. India’s SEZs recorded around USD 134.4 billion in combined goods and services exports between April and December 2025, with services exports accounting for approximately USD 84.5 billion, or nearly 63%, while goods exports made up the remaining share.

Vedanta Aluminium supplies customers in more than 60 countries, including markets across Europe, the United States, Japan and Southeast Asia. Its exports cater to industries such as automotive, aerospace, electrical, construction and packaging, where customers require products that meet stringent quality and environmental standards.

The company’s export portfolio includes a wide range of primary and value-added aluminium products, including billets, wire rods, rolled products, primary foundry alloys and ingots, along with its low-carbon Restora aluminium range. Demand is also growing from emerging sectors such as renewable energy, electric mobility, artificial intelligence infrastructure and data centres.

Vedanta Aluminium operates the world’s largest aluminium plant at Jharsuguda, Odisha, with an aluminium smelting capacity of 1.85 MTPA and an associated 3,615 MW thermal power generation facility. It is the only Indian smelter in the global “1 Million Tonne” production and export club. In FY26, the company produced 2.45 million tonnes of aluminium, accounting for more than half of India’s total aluminium output.
